Supaporn Noppakundilograt Siriwan Phattanarudee This review article describes silk fabric printing using digital technique via ink jet printing process. It compares advantages of fabric printing by ink jet over the conventional screening printing. It also comparatively describes the world status of ink jet printing and Thailandûs status of ink jet printing. Basic knowledge of ink jet printing system, its ink systems, and general ink jet ink composition in relation to color fading on fabrics are given. Fabric printing processes and surface pretreatment techniques for improving ink reception and characteristics on silk fabrics are described. Surface treatment agents from chemicals such as amino acids and those from locally waste materials like chitosan and sericin are elucidated.
