Yongyudh Vajaradul Fellow of the Academy of Science, The Royal Institute, Thailand The World Health Organization (WHO) granted to Srinagarin Scout Club, Thailand a scholarship to pilot project study the prevention of non-contagious diseases in urban communities by scouts to assess the feasibility of using the Boyscout Movement to prevent non-contagious diseases by educating the public about common non-communicable diseases. They should avoid nine factors pertaining to non-contagious diseases: smoking, drinking, not exercising, not eating vegetables, overweight (obesity), negligence, not checking blood sugar, not checking blood pressure, stress, and not taking precaution against accidents. Preventing diseases by avoiding these behaviors is more beneficial than treatment. The Princess Mother Scout Club under the patronage of HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana Krom Luang Naradhivas Rajanagarindra has proposed a project to prevent non-communicable diseases with scouts activities. A pattern of Hourly Virtual Cycling Meditation Exercise (HVCME) has been designed. The recording is set for 60 days consecutively to build up exercise habit by chair sitting and raising the legs up and down with the knees bent as if cycling 108 times in 1 minute each hour. This would help shed the surplus weight, decrease blood pressure, and create concentration, with more precaution against accidents. It would indirectly decrease blood pressure, drinking, and smoking. The project has organized activities on important religious days at Phra Mane Grounds to prevent dozing while driving, and also at the World Boyscout Jamboree in the United Kingdom and on çMahidol Dayé, 24 September. A study was conducted on scouts at Wat Yannawa. It was found that all scouts could perform the activities by themselves, resulting more concentration, not getting sleepy, and getting better results in their study. The elderly participating in the activities had stronger muscles and better blood circulation. The study showed that academic institutions still did not see the importance of disease prevention and the scouts were not accustomed to the innovation. However, this study could serve as a starting point and the work could be expanded.
