Abstract Titles and Generic Terms Karnchana Nacaskul Fellow of The Academy of Arts, The Royal Institute, Thailand To address a person by name in the Thai society one has to use a title suitable to the status of the person or the relationship between that person and the addresser. Using the title together with the name is an etiquette of using the language in Thai society, such title cannot be omitted. Names of birds, fishes, snakes, trees, flowers etc. In Thai are coined by using their generic terms preceeding their names. Such generic terms in naming animals, trees, and certain other things to address the kinds of names cannot be also omitted. Keywords : title, generic term
